Snaredrum suggestions?

I am 99% sure the Ludwig LM400 series and variations are still seemless. They really are a very good value, but I would really only consider the "B" versions, which are seemless brass shells. But a die cast rim on top, and you've got a KILLER snare for a very reasonable price.

I have a Dunnett Stainless Steel 5.5x14 and it's fantastic. I also have a standard DW Collectors 5x14 if I need something a little warmer. I picked the DW over the Anton Fig snare becase the Anton snare really choked when cranked up. Between these two snares (Dunnett and DW), there isn't much I can't cover.

Maybe it's just my 'i don't like' newer Ludwigs.

Think John Bonham and Carl Palmer.........both drummers played metal kits at one time in their career.
Carl Palmer's metal kit is on display at the Rock n Roll hall of fame.

I'm curious, what do chrome over maple sound like? Not familiar with them as i've never played one... still, curious, however.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The chrome plating would need to be on metal, so chances are that it would be chrome-plated steel wrapped around maple. I had a Slingerland set with that finish years ago and they sounded great (including the snare).

Anybody else tried the Yamaha Sonny Emory Signature (Beech) snare? I saw Terri Lynne Carrington play one at a clinic and thought it had mad sensitivity at low volume, nice mids and a really gorgeous solid crack. I ended up getting it as a birthday gift a couple weeks ago--the actual one Terri played. [img]smile.gif[/img] Sounds different up close but I'm loving it. Also love my DW Craviotto maple 13".

I agree with the "shopping" notion--snares must be thoroughly heard and investigated before purchase. Nobody else hears quite like you do and may not be into the same sound you seek.

Saw Chris Dave with that unbelievable snare as well...though I don't have an extra $2500 sitting around. Cheers!

5/5*14 die cast maple snare is batter..you can use this kind snare drum every style music..
